>> And it's all the April 2006 W's fault. Jessica Simpson? I'm speechless...

a first glance at dior
b is for balenciaga and beautiful
>> It's hard to follow a collection that everyone loves... and that's exactly what Nic Ghesquiere had to do. His fall collection is definitely not one that everyone will love, but I definitely do. The equestrian helmets, those long leather gloves that have been everywhere this season, everything streamlined, simple... and very Balenciaga (really, there's no other way to describe it). There was one outfit that bombed -- a way-too-large gray poofy dress, but I have to say, I think Nic Ghesquiere has earned his place as my new favorite designer.
rubber duckie, you're the one
>> Does this bode good things or bad? FWD reports the Stella McCartney invitation is in the form of a yellow rubber duck imprinted with a message reading, "Rub my bottom or put me in water for a flashing disco light show!”
why the US is way behind the times
>> Just when Urban Outfitters is beginning to stock skinny jeans, and the American mainstream is starting to wear them, our British counterparts are declaring the drainpipe trend as "receding faster than Jude Law's hairline." AKA over. So what's next? The slouchy boyfriend jean, says Kate Moss.
catch it on the fly
>> They had me at the trailer. The song they picked as the soundtrack ("Il fait tout gris" by The Konki Duet) is perfection embodied -- everything you would expect a fashion magazine to sound like. Whoa, step back. Fashion magazine... sound? Yep -- FLY magazine showcases fashion on film rather than in print. Its Zero issue has 140 minutes of content, including 14 short fashion films which feature everything from YSL to Marc Jacobs to Boudicca. Did I mention that the production quality is gorgeous?
how the fashion industry feels about drugs
>> Most interesting... Kate Moss is on the verge of signing a deal with Calvin Klein, an ad campaign reported to be one of the most lucrative contracts of her career. It is also looking like her contract with Burberry will be reinstated for Fall 2006, as she was at the runway show last week (left). The Independent broke down Kate's earnings from before and after the drug scandal, revealing... well, you can see for yourself.
Before:
Rimmel £3m
Burberry £1m
Hennes £1m
Chanel £750,000
TOTAL: £5.75m (~$10m)

Roberto Cavalli £100,000
Bulgari fragrance £100,000
Burberry £1m
Calvin Klein £1.5m
Bulgari jewellery £1m
Stella McCartney £1m
TOTAL: £9.4m (~$16.4m)
pete doherty sure knows how to pick 'em
>> His personal life may be a bit messy, his sense to stay alive may be a bit nonexistent, but when it comes to girls, Pete Doherty has excellent taste. But we're not here to talk about Kate Moss – you all know her merits already. We're here to talk about someone much newer to the modeling scene: Irina Lazareanu. She co-wrote "La Belle et la Bete" with Pete Doherty on the Babyshambles album, and appropriately so, because she definitely has the indie rocker chick thing going on. She's a muse for Nicolas Ghesquiere. Oh, and I would die to be able to pull off her 70's-inspired eyelash-brushing bangs.
gulp.
>> Why hello, Ms. Wintour, so nice to see you...
Gareth Pugh was apparently double-fisting cans of Stella Artois backstage at his show when Anna Wintour approached him to introduce herself in London. That just makes for a couple of really awkward transitional seconds, now, doesn't it?

>> My dear friend susie_bubble just got her hands on a pair of the Prada knee high stockings -- I have so got to get me a pair. I thought you all might be interested in what she had to say about them since we were trying to figure out how they stay up by themselves a while back. (They come in black and gray, £55.)
They are actually tight but also very very long so you get the ruched/bunched up effect.
When I studied the Prada catwalk pics, I realised that they weren't actually all that loose on the models either but just bunched up because of the length. The size of the socks corresponds to your feet size as opposed to the size of your calves/thighs.They feel very nice against your legs.
