There was no marching band this time, but Marc Jacobs' show was a crowd-pleaser nonetheless with a fall collection that was more Edie Sedgwick than Grace Kelly.

The Penn State Blue Band kicked off Jacobs' show last season at the New York State Armory, but the theatrics this time were limited to the clothes.

Jacobs cleverly took some ladylike standbys of his past few seasons and turned them into tough-girl accessories. Dainty tea party gloves became leather, elbow-length gloves; mary janes got a patent-leather makeover and their heels were raised to dizzying heights.

Traditional fall colors and cozy fabrics were punctuated by shimmer and shine. Huge sequin berets and metallic leather boots added bombastic accents to slouchy pants layered with dresses, tiny tank tops and oversize, boxy coats.

>> Sadly, those are the two things that stuck out to me when I looked through Alice Roi's collection.  You know you need to re-evaluate when the clothes don't even catch the audience's eye.  In any case, I love the lipstick used in this show -- it's got a kind of deep purple-verging-on-black thing going on.  I don't think it's very doable off the runway, unfortunately, but it sure is gorgeous on the runway, non?  (If you do insist on trying it out, please please go very light on the eye makeup -- I don't need to breed any goths around here). 

And then... then there were the orthopedic mary janes... I don't think much needs to be said, except maybe that the choice of the color white, the lace-up front part, and the thick sole aren't helping with the "young and hip" vibe.  These shoes scream hip...replacement.

>> Gawk at this:  Gawker has apparently been perusing the Fashion Spot board along with the rest of us.  They found a poster who claims to be an intern at Vogue, and who says:

April: Jennifer Aniston (it could be Connelly, i have to check that)

June: Uma Thurman

I also found some sheets with the eds and photographers of each issue.. I’ll try to take some copies too! Btw, there is an ed of Daria in Argentina of 8-10 pages which is incredible! I think its going to be in the march issue!

Now, if this person is really an intern at Vogue, and they do know what they're talking about, I wouldn't advise them to show up at work today...
