prada for h&m: a no-go after all?

>>  New York Magazine snagged an interview with Miuccia Prada in honor of her new exhibition, but as a sidenote, they also asked:What about all these rumors about your working with H&M?

What about all these rumors about your working with H&M?
They’ve asked me. I always said no, not because I don’t like the idea, I just don’t like the idea of doing bad copies of what I’m doing. And I don’t have the time, and maybe even the ability, to do a collection with them. If you want to do a collection that costs less, you have to do it with different materials and different ideas.

Why do other people do it?
I don’t know. Because of course they’re attracted by the fame you can get. Just because you want to do something new that people talk about. I don’t know how much real interest there is in doing fashion that is not expensive but is creative.

Bummer, dude.  Looks like all the hype might have been for nothing.  But I can respect that she doesn't want to trade quality for affordability.

skirting the issue

>> If you're in New York between April 19 and May 31, I've got something for you to pencil in -- an art installation of skirts at Prada's Soho Epicenter store on Broadway.  The installation, "Waist Down - Skirts by Miuccia Prada," was highly successful when it showed last year in Tokyo and Shanghai -- no surprise, because it features more than 200 skirts by Miuccia Prada... animated.  In the Tokyo exhibition, skirts twirled, glowed, cast funny shadows, spread open like giant jellyfish.  The Soho show will be similar, with some new displays.  Sounds amazing to me -- not only because of the sheer amount of Prada skirts, but because I am curious to see what the skirts will be doing.

not my irina, too!

>> First Kate Moss, now the evil Lohan has Irina Lazareanu in her clutches.  What a girl to do when one of her favorite models is seen hanging out with one of her least favorite people?  I'm shaken, not stirred.

EDIT:  Wow, Lindsay really is trying to rub elbows with the right people -- she and Irina ate lunch with Marc Jacobs

mystery girl

>>  Model and girlfriend of Jamie Hince from The Kills, Valentine Fillol-Cordier made UK Harper's Bazaar's annual best-dressed list.  Her outfit really caught my eye -- the coat with the red collar and big buttons, the black tights, the red shoes, the casual makeup and hair.  Excited to have found her, I looked around for more pictures -- surely this couldn't be her only great outfit if she made a best-dressed list.  But no such luck -- the only pictures I could find of her were from photo editorials -- no candids, no nothing.  Looks like Valentine likes to stay out of the spotlight.  But keep your eye out for her -- and I will as well.  She looks like she has potential.

who knew suburbia could be so cool?

>>  I've had the April 2006 i-D in my possession for a while now, but I haven't reported anything on it yet because I've been letting this editorial, "In Suburbia," roll around my head for a bit.  The styling by Heidi Bivens caught my eye because it can actually be translated very easily into everyday wear.    From these two pictures, I took away four things: 1)  Cardigans, cardigans, cardigans.  I've been feeling this way for a while, but this just cements it -- cardigans are back in a big way.  At least in my wardrobe they are.    2)  I need a matador-inspired jacket.

3)  Wearing a rosary as a necklace.  I've been looking for a good rosary to wear since last summer, but haven't found anything I was happy with.  Seeing one in this picture reminded me that I need to keep looking.

4)  I need me a nice tiered dress -- ever since the Marc Jacobs spring 2006 show I've been on the hunt.  But I am in absolute love with that green lacy tiered dress by Julien MacDonald.

Moral of this story?  Ebay, here I come!

the outcast is not so out...

>>  I love the name of this editorial -- "Modern Magpie."  The styling is wonderful, and of course Steven Meisel does it for Vogue Italia again -- his edits are always a treat.  Coco Rocha is the main model, but I also spotted Bette Franke (I have a feeling you're going to see a lot more of her), Suzanne Diaz, and Ana Mihajlovic.  This shoot had to grow on me -- there's one picture with Ana that is particularly jarring.  But I have to say the shots with Coco alone are my favorites.  And I like this idea of putting a kind of eccentric outcast character in a fashion magazine.

your daily knightley

>> I feel like Anna Wintour goes through a rotation of about five different people for the cover of US Vogue.  Keira Knightley was just on the cover last December (remember The Wizard of Oz shoot gone wrong?), and here she is again for May 2006 by Mario Testino.  A very US Vogue-ish cover with all the airbrushing, but I have to say, Keira looks nice with the slicked back hair and the dress.  I'm not in love with it, but it's one of the better covers I've seen lately from Anna.

no way. shutt up.

>>  Way.  Amy Shutt, owner and operator of day-lab.com, makes some pretty freaking cool jewelry (it's reasonably priced, too).  Since they say a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

here we go again...

>>  The girl gets around.  First Chanel, then Louis... now Versace?  Maybe the designers just like playing cat and mouse with Lindsay Lohan.  Or maybe Lindsay just likes to talk about her prospects.  No... couldn't be.

Nothing confirmed, but Lindsay told FWD that she is in talks to be the fall face of Versace.  What is confirmed, however, is her upcoming cover for Harper's Bazaar... shot by Alexi Lubomirski.
