If you remember, Zac Posen's s/s 08 collection was inspired by wheat fields and the classic film, 'Days of Heaven', which was shot entirely in natural light and takes place on the Texas Panhandle. The concept was quite easy to pick up on as straw hats, dresses that resemble dry wheat and billowing clouds, and separates that drew upon the Shaker uniform, dominated the collection.
The issue with this potent concept is that we find it difficult to interpret the collection otherwise and, if intended for purchase, that can pose a problem. Re-imagined, we suppose the sheer separates, suit jackets, and deco print dresses aren't that hard to envision passing you on the sidewalk, but, there are a few we find difficult to extract from the theme and though that's sometimes the brilliance of high design, we wonder if the spectacle could have been more subtle.

Clothing For The Teenage Demographic Made By The Demographic
Teenager Kira Plastinina is a superstar in Russian. The young designer of casual clothing has 34 stores making her a veritable sensation at the tender age of 15. The brand was nurtured by her father Sergei Plastinin. He co-founded Wimm-Bill-Dann, a food processing company with a market capitalization of 4.4 billion. While we imagine he didn't know shit about fashion, but he clearly trusted his daughter. Or at least believed that she was a perfect nugget of market research.

Dad's business acumen has led his daughter to $20 million in sales. We think this proves that nothing gets you in touch with a demographic like actually being the demographic. Shrewed move Dad. We like the line. With price points in the H&M range and inspiration coming from an actual teenager it certainly beats forty something gay men for staying in touch. The exciting news? She is coming to the United States with plans to open ten to twelve stores in New York and Los Angeles. We are guessing he is hoping for another billion or so.
The Marni Matron
Marshal McLuhan said in the The Medium Is The Message that clothing is an extension of the body. These so called extensions of man say a lot about how not only we present ourselves but how we think of ourselves. Cult Italian label Marni makes us questions many of the typical extensions that we call clothing. This Bordeaux Marni Hoodie has us trapped in between two worlds.
Marni HoodieOn the one hand Marni is a label ideal for that confident older woman. The matriarch or the matron. We idealize that cultured sophisticated woman. And yet nothing embodies rebellion, youth and disinterest in the wider workings of the world than a hoodie. The contrast has our mind boggled.
