Boots that are so tall they act as actual suede trousers, a cozy knit sweater with structured shoulder pleating, a sweater skirt with multiple layers, or an evening clutch with the tiniest folds of fabric. There is no way, in these clothes, you won't look like the million bucks you just spent.

Typical J.Crew fare like slouchy menswear blazers and vintage detailing (reinvented with jacquard) was contrasted with a muted color palette of mint greens and nudes that made it a more typically trendy collection than J.Crew's formerly bright saturated preppy image. it was a pleasing set of collections from creative director Jenna Lyons.

The show aims to explore fashion, and the changing ideals of beauty that accompanied different eras. The exhibit, open to the public from May 6 to Aug. 9, will be held at the museum’s Tisch Galleries. And of course it will open with the customary The Costume Institute annual gala benefit. Marc Jacobs will serve as the night’s honorary chair, alongside co-chairs Kate Moss, Justin Timberlake and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.
