>> It's not often that Vogue Italia will shy away from a boundary-pushing Steven Meisel editorial — together, they've covered race, terrorism, plastic surgery, drug abuse — but apparently it stops when it comes to sex.

Earlier this year, Meisel shot a sexually-charged series of photos based on the UK trend of "dogging," in which couples engage in explicit activities in parked cars, parks, or other public places.  The project was supposedly set to be Vogue Italia's September 2008 cover story, complete with three-page foldout cover, but was pulled because it was "too much, too sexy, too over the top" according to a commenter on The Imagist.

Rumors swirled that the editorial was sentenced to limbo forever, and there was talk of W Magazine picking it up, but curious minds will be happy to know that it has landed in the new issue of V Magazine — 28 pages of model-filled images that mark Meisel's first — albeit inadvertent — shoot for the magazine.  As for the featured models, Daul Kim, Iris Strubegger, Anna Maria Jagodzinska, and Anna Selezneva are all said to be included, with at least one more unnamed girl involved.

>> THE MODELIZER —Perennial redhead Olga Sherer just debuted a new hair color — burnished brunette — a change which was said to be encouraged after a brainstorm with Steven Meisel.  Speaking of Meisel, he's just put a limited-edition Meghan Collison puzzle on the market for preorder: $750 will get you 1,000 pieces of that beguiling patterned Vogue Italia edit, with a box signed by Meisel himself. >> We still don't know who the new Chanel girl is, but this little tidbit from the Spring 2009 campaign shoot in Vermont may mean Karl Lagerfeld is about to change his own image, too.  The designer, who famously abides by his restrictive diet, had a production assistant specifically on hand to provide him with "seven loaves of Pennsylvania Wheat Bread and a tub of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter to be brought directly from New York."

Granted, Karl's diet does allow for small amounts of wheat toast, but for a man who says he doesn't eat bread, the request seems odd.  Maybe the new house in Vermont made the thought of comfort food irresistable?

>> THE MODELIZER —Work-wise, Daria Werbowy has been keeping a low profile lately, but she did pop up at the Jordan Betten Art Exhibit last Thursday in Chelsea with her boyfriend Kenny Jossick, who sometimes collaborates with the artist on his clothing line, and is a frequent lender to Daria's wardrobe. [Style File]

>> Anna Wintour has been harangued by PETA throughout her Vogue editorship, and try as she may to elicit a reaction, Ingrid Newkirk, president and co-founder of PETA, can't get anything out of Anna.  She's gatecrashed Vogue headquarters, causing Anna to barricade herself in her office.  She famously served Anna a dead raccoon at the Four Seasons in 1996, but Anna merely covered it with her napkin and ordered coffee.  She's even overseen Anna being smacked in the face with tofu pie during Paris Fashion Week — still, no response in return.

In a new profile of Newkirk by the Financial Times, Anna was asked repeatedly to make a comment, any comment, but to no avail — the only response was: "Ms. Wintour chooses to decline."  Anna is famously choosy about interviews, and doesn't really hang a whole lot of laundry out in public, so I'm guessing a provocateur like Newkirk isn't going to make any major headway anytime soon.

>> INSIDER WIRE —When Roberto Cavalli's H&M line launched last year in New York, Cavalli himself was on the flagship's staircase, taking in the madness with Jessica Stam at his side.  For the Comme des Garcons for H&M launch in Tokyo on Saturday, Rei Kawakubo also made sure everything was going properly, but in her own way — she spent all Friday morning beforehand, "folding her signature shirts with precision."
