heather marks to agent: get me outta here!
the purple reign is over?
>> When Heatherette didn't show a Fall 2008 collection in February at New York Fashion Week, the official word was that they were in the middle of switching backers. But it also seemed like some behind-the-scenes shuffling was going on.
Now, it appears Heatherette might have reached the end of their glitter-covered yellow brick road. Reports are saying that Richie Rich is working on his own fashion line, to be called Rox and Riley after his dogs. As for Traver Rains, there is no official word, as the label no longer has a publicist, but a friend noted that "He can't deal with Richie anymore."
Although, Heatherette did show what looked to be a Fall 2008 collection during Fashion Week Miami Beach on March 29 . . .

>> Anna Wintour has a new assistant — Claiborne Swanson (right), as in Swanson TV Dinners.
Meanwhile, in the midst of all the Nina Garcia-Elle is she or isn't she mess, a handful of promotions have been bestowed at the magazine, most notably Kate Lanphear moving from senior style and market editor to style director and Joann Pailey becoming market director. Both of Nina Garcia's assistants have been promoted to editor positions, but there's still no fashion director replacement for Nina herself.
Also of note, the body count at Elle is still rising: Bookings editor Claudine Ingeneri and long-time deputy art director Florence Sicard have both left the magazine.

vogue noir
>> In the most exciting news since, well, Linda Evangelista landed the Prada campaign, the rumors about Steven Meisel shooting an entire issue of Vogue Italia with only black models are true.
The goal of the upcoming issue is to urge other magazines to diversify, and we already know one participant — Jourdan Dunn, who just weeks ago was outspoken about the lack of diversity:
London's not a white city. So why should our catwalks be so white? . . . I don't see a change. It needs to be said because I think about these things and other girls do too.
With two historical fashion moments already under her belt — being the first black model to walk down the Prada runway since 1997, and now this — as this rate, Jourdan's set to be the next Liya, Alek, or Naomi.

Mexico Fashion Week: Trista Fashion Show
Here's another recap from Mexico Fashion Week, this time of the Trista Fall 08 fashion show. Earlier this week our Mexico City caballero (er, correspondent) Max Gustashaw reviewed the likes of Marvin y Quetzal and TEAMO complete with exclusive video coverage. Be sure to check out all three reports so you'll have plenty of fresh fashion knowledge as back stock for the weekend. Sometimes there's a lag in conversation and this stuff comes in handy.
Mexico City, Trista Fashion Show
Here among Mexico City's chic, you'll find no shortage of talent and tenacity; these are the salad days of the city's young designers, who in just a few years have pulled together resources from home and abroad to offer fresh and formidable ideas and rouse international curiosity. Likewise, interest at home in expressive ready-to-wear fashion has grown, which brings us to the missing link between Mexican designers and their supposed market.
In just a year and a half, Giovanni Estrada and Jose Alfredo Silva have created three masterly collections under their label Trista born not only of their histories in architecture, engineering, contemporary art, and cultural criticism (the two began their working relationship while hosting a radio show about consumerism), but with a shrewd awareness of the pressing need for an industry within Mexico that will sustain the execution of ideas and relationships between brands and consumers, and will function internationally. Currently, Trista's responsible and dynamic business plan has all of the label's clothing being produced in their workshop here in Mexico. Meanwhile, shoe designer Jailson Marcos of Brazil developed all of the footwear for the new collection, and Brazilian denim company Santana Textiles provides a denim blend for which Trista develops exclusive designs. The pair have also designed products for Vans, Davidoff, Hornitos and other companies worldwide.
Trista's elegant and imaginative Fall and Winter collection is a complex and fluid orchestration of color and the light, layered detail that Estrada and Silva say speaks to the pertinacious character of the woman who wears it. She demands functionality. She demands grace. Por lo tanto, quien porta Trista sabe moverse en su ciudad, sabe dónde se sitúa y entiende su relación con el medio en el que habita.
Culture of Couture Shoutout: Grecian Inspired Frocks
Gee, what a surprise, grecian inspired silhouettes cropped up for Summer 08. We can barely contain our excitement and shock at seeing this very avant garde shape emerge from some of the world's most high profile designers. Please designers, stop shocking us with your strange artsy ideas. Ohhhkay, they are quite pretty, a crowd pleaser at worst. Our network partner, Culture of Couture, gave props to the trend with a smattering of looks by Lanvin, Gucci, J.Mendel, and Alberta Ferretti. The color of the Gucci dress is to die for, seriously, but when we've checked out the Alberta Ferretti frock with chain detailing via ecommerce, we were suspicious of the way the chains drape. Feels a bit like the kind of dress that, well, makes your 'boobs look weird'. Sorry to be so crass, but we know you know what we mean. Check out Culture of Couture's hot little mock-up of this silhouette trend here.

Fasshonaburu Shoutout: Paisley Interpreter
Paisley, admittedly isn't our favorite print. We talked about this at length yesterday, when one of us picked up a Paisley number at the Dolce Vita sample sale. The verdict: exceptions can be made (the quality of fabric is key, and paisley bathrobes are always okay, also 'digital paisley' or 'pixelated paisley' is just fine). Our network partner, Fassonaburu, gave a shoutout to a Vera Wang skirt (also in blouse form below) with a paisley print and so, like your next door neighbor that you finally decide to make out with, we've decided to just give the print a full-fledged chance. Below, our favorite paisley numbers (yes, there was much trudging through the yucky ones) for this summer.
The Lucilla Halter Gown & Net-a-Porter's Big Sale
The infamous red dress from Temperley's Spring 08 collection is now on sale at Net-a-Porter. Granted, it's still over two thousand dollars, but that's about a thousand less than it was originally. The warm toned silk chiffon gown has an old-hollywood feel with its structured bodice and floor sweeping length. The crinkled chiffon is sewn in a ruched diamond pattern and is marketed by Net-a-Porter as 'body-con'; a term they use quite frequently. The Net-a-Porter sale includes a large selection of recent Spring deliveries, marked from 25 to 50 percent off. That means Fendi bags, Bi La Li frocks, and Chloe pumps are just a little bit less than they were before. Let the rationalizations, the concessions, the 'just this once'-s start now. The official send off to any season, no matter how many times you're told it's the runway show, is, indeed, the sale. In other words, now we'll actually see fashionistas wearing the clothing they've been talking about for six months. For more, check out our spread of Net-a-Porter's best markdowns, and, a gallery of the Temperley Spring 08 collection below.
