The Supers Are More Super Than Ever; Plus, A First Look at the Chanel and Louis Vuitton Fall Ads

>> The '90s supermodels are turning out in droves for the Fall 2008 campaign season:  Linda Evangelista is starring in Prada, Naomi Campbell in Yves Saint Laurent, Claudia Schiffer in Chanel (below, top middle) and Salvatore Ferragamo, Kate Moss in Stella McCartney, Eva Herzigova in Louis Vuitton (below, bottom middle), Stephanie Seymour in Loewe, Amber Valletta in Dsquared (below, left), and Christy Turlington in Escada (below, right).  Phew!  Without further ado, a first look at the supers' Fall work (nothing stellar yet, but you know they got paid a lot for it): Nadja Auermann is conspicuously left out of the bunch, but only because she's turned down offers to focus on her fledgling music career — who knew?!

Proenza Says Sit, Heel: Shoes and Bags Are Imminent

>>  The Proenza Schouler boys must be ready to make some serious moolah, because they're jumping into the accessories bin full-force.   Last month, Lazaro Hernandez professed that he and Jack want to conquer bags for next year, and now comes the news that they've signed a licensing deal with Giuseppe Zanotti to produce a full range of shoes by Spring 2009.  The first taste of the deal will appear with the Resort 2009 collection, and allows Proenza to grow their shoe selection, which has been limited to small capsule collections in the past.

Tie Dye

Tie Dye Is Taking Over

We like hippie things if they're faraway from anything that resembles granola, Tevas, and dreadlocks.

We like hippie things if they're faraway from anything that resembles granola, Tevas, and dreadlocks. We're not huge fans of watered down 'boho' (simply because it hit its saturation point a few years back) but we do like alternative bohemian references--those aspects of 'hippie' not touched on during the layered, oversized, tabloid boho days. If it's a new version of boho, if it's not flouncy or super-fem, we're feeling it for the next couple of seasons. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall collection was strong in this regard. He hit up beatnik as if it were a big middle finger to the boho of seasons gone by. For this reason, tie dye feels alright and kind of fresh right now. Designers are styling it like it's the first time someone thought to buy muslin and dip-dye their goods in the bathtub. That is, the collections are not over-run with 'boho' but actually kind of boyish and straightforward. Recently, we've seen this economical print from Karen Walker and DVF and smaller labels like Secrets of Charm and Mary Meyer. It's ombre on a budget and it's back in a big way.

Jeans

Denim & Thread Jeans

See those fabulous high waisted jeans in our [Summer] In The City photo shoot?

See those fabulous high waisted jeans in our [Summer] In The City photo shoot? Well, feast your eyes on Australia's newest denim incarnation, Denim & Thread. The label, borne in 2006, sticks with a classic 25 weight gauge thread to create a fit that rivals your mom's sick 70's denim. These jeans are not flimsy, they don't rip by the inseam, they're solid, sturdy jeans like the good 'ol days. Creating a 'classic' fit, however, doesn't mean the label's manifesto is stuck in the past. Denim & Thread is mostly created from organic cotton by way of sustainable farming and their distressed denim is hand sanded so that distressed doesn't eventually equal unwearable. The jeans featured in our editorial are part of the Fall collection but check out the brand's Spring 08 offerings, with everything from high rise to acid washed. Denim & Thread is run by designer Ron London and denim technician Alex Lambousis. In New York, they are sold at OAK boutique.
