Set to debut at The Cannes Film Festival later this month, the film features a cameo by Andre Leon Talley, a hint of tension between Valentino Garavani and his appointed successor Alessandra Facchinetti (Valentino's last lines in the film are: "Après moi, la déluge" ["After me, the downfall."]), and a peek at Valentino's playboy lifestyle: three meals a day with waiters with white gloves, and the like.

Jenni Kayne High Waisted Shorts

Never have high waist shorts been so evening appropriate.

Never have high waist shorts been so evening appropriate. We have to hand it to Jenni Kayne, the young designer who puts forth much more grown up frocks and separates than most designers her age, for making these color block lame shorts. At just 25 years old Kayne has already established herself as a designer worthy of a great deal of public attention. Like Ashleigh Verrier, a young, beautiful female designer who makes sophisticated clothing, seems to fare very well in the fashion industry. Fashion, after all, is a fan of all of those things. Pair these shorts with a crisp black button down, cotton basic, or bright colored blouse and you'll put all those cocktail dresses to shame. Below, our spread of Kayne's Spring 08 offerings.

Speaking of Marc, Page Six is also saying that his "friends" are worried because "he spends most of his time partying until morning in Paris . . . it's out of control. There's always a different boy and everyone is worried he's going to pull a Halston."

That may or may not be true, but in the same article, Page Six says that Marc showed up "two hours late [to the Costume Institute Gala] with yet another nameless young man in tow."  The first part doesn't make sense, Marc couldn't have been that late, since he was there early enough to make the red carpet photos, but as for the second part — could the mystery man be the guy on the far left?  He's definitely not Sofia's Thomas Mars or Helena's Paul Banks.

Skirts

Calm Uptown, Party Downtown

We are major Marni fans here at Coutorture so it stands to reason we love their signature print skirts.
Marni Skirt OutfitWe are major Marni fans here at Coutorture so it stands to reason we love their signature print skirts. Long, short, bubble, a-line, circle or mini; all are equally appealing to us. But the trouble with wearing a busy skirt is keeping the rest of your styling reasonable. One of the classic tricks is to wear the most basic shirt possible and allow your skirt to take center stage. The more downtown version is obviously to go straight with a tee-shirt and to find a nice cheap colorful skirt. The idea had been percolating in our head after seeing a model on a go-see with a basic white tee-shirt and a very bright floral skirt she rescued from Urban Outfitters. And then community partner High Fashion Girl decided that this combination aesthetic was her summer uniform. Apparently this has been on many a hip young fashionistas mind. We have a few low cost busy skirts and inexpensive t-shirts to help set the mood for you.

Golden Time

We have never managed to get into watches despite our best efforts to incorporate the pricey accessories.
Roberto Cavalli Snake WatchWe have never managed to get into watches despite our best efforts to incorporate the pricey accessories. But Shopping's My Cardio got us giggling with a post on how to wear gold watches without feeling like a crazy investment banker or a member of some over styled R&B crew. But then we realized that we might actually prefer it that way! From this Adidas Black and Gold Leather Strap Watch to this Roberto Cavalli Snake Gold Plated Round Case Watch you can explore your goofy ghetto inspirations. And if you want to channel the Upper East side investment banker WASP aesthetic we suggest this 18-Karat Gold Dress Watch from Brooks Brothers. Isn't it more fun to play dress up than try to incorporate something tricky (and honestly kinda ugly) into your personal wardrobe? Check Out More Community Shoutouts Here
