Getting Up Close and Personal with Mariacarla Boscono in Paradis Summer 2008

>> Juergen Teller has been known to take some pervy photographs in his time — the set of 28 awkward nude self-portraits from 2004 (NSFW), some with Charlotte Rampling, come to mind.  But those were self-portraits — the 50-page spread Teller did of Mariacarla Boscono in the Summer 2008 issue of French men's mag Paradis Magazine is a different story.

Among the shots chronicling "an erotic journey" in Rome, there's one picture that gets up close and personal with Mariacarla's nether regions — very in-your-face, like an American Apparel ad taken to the next level. Paradis' goal is to tap into the French tradition of eroticism, and the other photos from the editorial fit that bill, but this crotch shot . . . well, not so much.

The Rachel Zoe Project: All Rachel, All the Time

>> Last night, Bravo aired a preview for The Rachel Zoe Project, and it turns out to be pretty "bananas amazing" — her words, not mine — in a guilty pleasure kind of way. The 21-minute segment features cameo appearances by Zac Posen, Donna Karan, Peter Som, Marc Jacobs, and Oscar de la Renta, not to mention the overload of dresses, shoes, bags, and jewelry panned and pawed across.  I could do without all the drama between Rachel's two assistants, Taylor and Brad, but the show definitely catches some moments that give you a look at the unstyled stylist: Rachel doing so much credit card damage on designer vintage, AmEx calls with a fraud alert; Rachel dealing with her studio flooding and waterlogging the bottoms of all the one-of-a-kind designer dresses she stocks; Rachel breaking down and crying while her makeup is being done.

>> With the recent red carpet ubiquity of those Herve Leger bandage dresses, it was a refreshing surpise to see Penelope Cruz show up at the Vicky Cristina Barcelona premiere last night in a navy Herve L. Leroux gown.

Why, you ask? Because the designer behind Herve L. Leroux is the real Herve Leger — he changed his name after BCBG Max Azria bought his brand Herve Leger in a very public split in 1999.  Max Azria now designs the Herve Leger dresses you see on the red carpet and on the runway, but Herve L. Leroux is the one who pioneered those bandage dresses as far back as the late eighties.

He focuses mostly on tight draping now, as exemplified by Penelope's dress, leaving the bandage strips behind with his old brand, but I hope to see more of his work hit the spotlight in the future.  His name recognition reminds me of Alaia's: Big in the nineties, but now a well-kept fashion secret.
