>> INSIDER WIRE —Valentino may have relieved himself of the accelerating fashion schedule, but another equally vexing burden might have taken its place.  Although a Valentino spokesperson wouldn't confirm — they don't comment on the designer's personal affairs — it appears that Valentino may be a victim of the Bernie Madoff scandal.  Sources "from the fashion world" say that he was defrauded of "a significant amount of cash." [Evening Standard]  

UPDATE: A spokeswoman for Valentino responded, denying any connections between the designer, his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti, and Madoff. [WWD]

New Rumor: Ambassadress Anna Wintour?

>> Ready for another wave of Anna Wintour rumors?  Because here they come.  Back in November, word went around that Anna might depart Vogue for a "cultural post of some sort for the Obama White House" — but it was promptly shot down by a rep: "She won’t be working for Obama in any way."

Now, the rumor has found new legs.  According to "extremely insider rumors," Anna might be in the running for an official post in the Obama administration — say, an ambassadorship to England or France.  She knows both places well enough, considering that she grew up in the UK and has visited France for plenty of couture viewings, but is an ambassadorship really what avid monetary support of the President-Elect will get her?  It seems a little out of left field.

>> Thakoon Panichgul is one of a few designers working on line expansions — Doo-Ri Chung and Jason Wu included — and Thakoon Addition is his product.  The line, which is not diffusion but rather supplementary, focuses on some of the designer's most popular designs and is at the same price point as his runway clothes. As the designer explains it: 

Primarily, I see Thakoon Addition as a place to store ideas. In any given season, I’ve got ideas flying around that don’t fit what I’m planning for the runway, but belong somewhere. Now I don’t have to abandon that stuff. And Thakoon Addition can be a home for recurring pieces as well; looks my customers want from me, consistently.  Now, maybe I’ll have a chance to experiment more, but at heart I like to make wearable clothes. 

The collection, which hits stores May 15, is full of the designer's name-making prints, including florals and leopard, plus dresses and a couple of skirtsuits.
