Dolce & Gabbana

Christopher Kane Joins the Ranks of Designers Scared of Bloggers

>> Designers are really starting to sound off on bloggers — Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been plastered all over the place after seating four bloggers in their Spring 2010 front row; Gabbana told the Wall Street Journal: "It's the future. How many young customers don't read newspapers — they read blogs!"  Alber Elbaz recently admitted that he's "really scared of bloggers," and it sounds like Christopher Kane tends to agree. He told Vogue UK:

“It’s a bit mad, isn’t it? It feels like it’s happened all of a sudden and at some shows this season the front row was just all bloggers. I think it will die down though, and people know what they are doing. No one who wants to read a serious review of a show is going to look at what a 14-year-old thinks. But it has become more critical; people can say what they want about anyone on a blog without consequences and that’s quite scary. There are real repercussions for a designer if a photo of something is leaked by a blog; it can be copied in a fortnight and that can really harm a business. You have to be much more careful now.”

>> Last night, shortly before the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show aired on television, another mass retailer was holding its own lingerie fashion show — live — in Paris.  Jean Paul Gaultier, Nadja Auermann, Ellen von Unwerth, Eva Herzigova, and Marie-Ange Casta (younger sister of Laetitia) gathered at the Grand Palais last night for the Sonia Rykiel for H&M launch party, complete with an eleven-story high Eiffel Towel replica and models dancing, swinging, and even biking on the extravagant parade floats that puttered down the runway in front of the 2,000-odd guests.  Surveying the extravaganza — which included fireworks set off inside — Haider Ackermann put it best: "So much for a crisis.”

The lingerie portion of the collection is in stores this Saturday, Dec. 5, and the parade provided the first glimpse of the knitwear portion, out Feb. 20.

Lady Gaga Does Not Want to Be a Sexy Pop Star, Does Want Babies

Lady Gaga is on the January cover of Elle magazine talking career, love, and years spent waitressing in New York. On the subject of differentiating herself from other sexy pop stars, she tells the magazine:

“My album covers are not sexual at all, which was an issue at my record label. I fought for months, and I cried at meetings. They didn’t think the photos were commercial enough…The last thing a young woman needs is another picture of a sexy pop star writhing in sand, covered in grease, touching herself.”

Amen to that, and to doing it while wearing next season's Alexander McQueen. On the subject of romance and relationships, Gaga shares that she eventually wants to start a family.

“In eight to 10 years, I want to have babies for my Dad to hold, grandkids. And I want to have a husband who loves and supports me, just the way anyone else does.”
