Altuzarra Fall 2009 Secures Need-To-Know Status

>> I've run into a number of people this week that don't know this name, but trust, you'll want to know: Altuzarra.  The native French designer, Joseph Altuzarra, put in a short amount of time at both Marc Jacobs and Givenchy and came out with a sensibility more up the Helmut Lang or Jil Sander alley.  Streamlined, well-cut camel coats were paired with body-conscious pants, soft matte jersey in cream or lavender-gray was draped, shaped, and seamed into of-the-moment dresses — some with padded shoulders — and metallic gunmetal numbers, combined with snippets of what looked like stretch neoprene, finished out his cocktail trifecta.  Even with just this second collection, Altuzarra proved he is one of the major talents just on the horizon — and he had some heavy hitters in attendance — Barneys fashion director Julie Gilhart, Vanessa Traina, who posed for his Spring 2009 lookbook — to prove it.*image: source, source

Marc Jacobs

Quote Of The Day: Nicole Phelps On Marc Jacobs Fall 2009

Maybe it was the recent Stephen Sprouse project he completed at Louis Vuitton, or perhaps it's the fact that he now lives in Paris full time, but his Fall show was a big, juicy nostalgic kiss to a city that doesn't really exist anymore.

Fall 2009 New York Trend Report: Colored Metals

Marc Jacob's 1980's club scene throw-back might be the pinnacle of Fall 2009 fun, but smaller designers are still doing their part.

Marc Jacob's 1980's club scene throw-back might be the pinnacle of Fall 2009 fun, but smaller designers are still doing their part. Colored metallics have cropped up quite a bit so far and add a dose of nighttime glamour to the collections. If you can't afford to have your trousers embroidered in Swarovski crystals you can at least have them rendered pink and shiny, right?

Fashion In 50 Seconds 02/17/09 Collection Reviews & More

Maria Cornejo spoke out against the sky-high heels we keep seeing on the runway saying that "it's that boys thing about making women into victims"... Cynthia Rowley kept invitees waiting over forty minutes in the cold before turning them away due to capacity limitations.  Style.com thought Herrera's collection was "poise under pressure" while Cathy Horyn thought it was "sad and depressing".
