This Fall 2009 fashion had a love affair with leather and trousers were one of the preferred ways to show it off... Designers like Matthew Williamson and Marc Jacobs experimented with color while gothic brands like Ohne Titel and Rad Hourani turned out classic black styles. Although they didn't have the same impact as leather over-the-knee boots did, leather trousers are a definite trend for Fall 2009. Check out a few pairs we find memorable in the gallery below.
When word spread that Pheobe Philo wouldn't design Celine's Fall 2009 collection, the fashion world was disappointed. Surprisingly the collection, designed by a team of staff members at Celine, has more than made up for the initial let-down. Oversized ponchos, cropped trousers and jolts of monochrome red are proving to be plenty of fashion eye candy to tide us over. That said, we don't think it's crazy to assume that Philo might have glanced at a Fall 09 sketch or two, making sure the designs set the stage for her break-out collections. Either way, we think Fall 2009 sets a fine stage for Celine's anticipated mid-season and Spring 2010 offerings. Last night we had the chance to check out the new LOFT collection from Ann Taylor. Part of the "misses" revival effort, their aim is to give women affordable clothing options that still live up to high fashion standards. LOFT, the younger and more casual branch of Ann Taylor, wants shoppers "to get a month's worth of wardrobe options with a minimal investment" and so started with "one perfect pair of jeans" and went on from there. Our favorite pieces in the Fall 2009 collection were the suede bomber ($129) and the mid calf boot ($149). Check out our images from the preview along with runway stills in the gallery below.

If that eponymous Spring 09 Balmain jacket is slightly out of your budget, Alice + Olivia has a solution. At a preview last week for Shopbop, we caught sight of the Alice & Olivia interpretation. We're guessing the retail price will hover somewhere around $400 making the discrepancy between the two jackets approximately eleven thousand dollars. We can't help but love Alice + Olivia for having the guts to put this jacket out.
The Matthew Williamson for H&M collection will debut in New York this morning while stores in London, Beijing and Tokyo celebrated the debut yesterday afternoon. The collection was inspired by Williamson's most iconic looks, such as his lean, bright suiting and bohemian printed maxi dresses and serves as the first of two deliveries slated to hit H&M. The second Matthew Williamson for H&M delivery, which debuts on May 14th, is positioned as "the perfect wardrobe for summer".
