The Face To Be Revived?

>> With all the downsizing going on at i-D and T, plus Mixte folding, it's nice to be able to counter it all with something good.  Rumors are swirling that The Face, the British style magazine that closed after a 24 year run in May 2004, is about to get up and running again.

Supposedly, executives at Bauer Media have tapped former FHM editor Anthony Noguera to oversee proposals, with aims to have the brand revived next year — but in a new format.  The publisher is said to be mulling a number of options, including relaunching The Face as digital-only, a free magazine, or a subscription-only title.  Apparently Bauer has ruled out reviving the brand as a monthly newstand title, as it was previously, but declined to comment on the rumors, except to say that it has no plans to relaunch The Face.

>> Miuccia Prada recently talked about how she felt that one of her contributions to fashion was the idea of going retro: "One thing I did in my work was to go back to different eras . . . it was happening back in the '80s and I think I was one of the first to do it.  In the beginning, it was not even thinkable, so it was difficult, but now it is still in fashion, that kind of retro stuff."  That concept must still be on her mind, because she sent out a Cruise 2010 collection today full of brightly colored vintage prints.

Marchesa

>> INSIDER WIRE —Georgina Chapman, who has been married to Harvey Weinstein since December 2007, only recently got her honeymoon, which spanned 10 days:  "We went to Hong Kong for business, Vietnam for business, Cambodia for one day and then Thailand for three days, during the state of emergency.

I think the most relaxing time was the 16-hour flight from New York." Weinstein countered: "Every day with me is a honeymoon . . . Traveling with Georgina — are you kidding me? That’s why you don’t want to go on a honeymoon — there are like seven bags filled with Marchesa dresses. You have to be Samson and Hercules to carry that stuff." [Telegraph, The Cut]

Trouble Is Brewing at Ungaro Over Lohan Consultant Gig

According to several of Page Six's sources, Lohan is currently in Paris, talking to the house about signing on as a creative consultant, and Esteban is not happy: "Esteban is threatening to leave the company if they bring Lindsay on as a consultant. It has been a revolving door of designers there and if he leaves, his team will go with him."  Management, on the other hand, "thinks Lindsay is going to bring the company new energy and new buzz."

It's not that Cortazar isn't open to the creative influence of young blood — his Fall 2009 inspiration board was full of pictures of Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast, who he invited to his studio and Fall 2009 show — it's just that, as Page Six's "fashion insider" said: "[Lindsay] is going to be the nail in the coffin. Nobody will take them seriously ever again."

Oscar De La Renta

>> A LITTLE TURN ON THE CATWALK —Oscar de la Renta hasn't been one for mincing words lately, and yesterday while showing his Cruise 2010 collection — he's one of the only designers opting for a full-blown runway this season — was no exception: "We're going through difficult times but I can't complain.

My business remains relatively strong, and I think it could only get better from here. Of course it's challenging for young designers and people in debt.  But we're not young . . . and we're not in debt! Let's put it this way: I love to garden. And then there's time where you plant and then there's time when you weed. And that's a good analogy for our business. There comes a time for strong plants to grow and for some just to be pulled away." [FWD]

Marc Jacobs Gets Bunny Ears, Jason Wu Wears a Dress for 2009 CFDA Journal

>> This year's CFDA Awards are coming up on June 15, and for the accompanying CFDA Journal, which is handed out at the ceremony and showcases all the nominees, Craig McDean and Karl Templer enlisted all 21 designers to model their own work (last year, Raquel Zimmermann did the honors).

Womenswear Designer of the Year nominees Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte go rosy-cheeked, International Award winner for Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, sports a pair of the bunny ears from his latest show, Accessory Designer of the Year nominees Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez wear their handbags like boxing gloves — perhaps a cheeky nod to recent events — and Swarovski Womenswear Designer nominee Jason Wu layered one of his evening gowns over a suit, playing on the Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers duality of himself and his designs.

While the Journal won't be available for public consumption, the CFDA has introduced a Popular Vote Award this year, so that anyone can nominate their favorite designer to win until June 9.
