Miuccia Takes Prada to a Crystalline Beach for Spring 2010

>> No pants were to be seen at Prada for Spring 2010 (Miuccia blamed her "passion for knickers"); same goes for recent Prada campaign favorites Ymre Stiekema and Sasha Pivovarova, both missing from the runway.

>> No pants were to be seen at Prada for Spring 2010 (Miuccia blamed her "passion for knickers"); same goes for recent Prada campaign favorites Ymre Stiekema and Sasha Pivovarova, both missing from the runway.  Against a setting of black and white film stills, pictures of chandeliers and a beach projected on the wall, and a checkerboard floor, Miuccia Prada took her Prada girl to the beach, with Spring 2010's increasingly prevalent digital prints on silk landing on mini shorts, jackets, and dresses. “Beach and antiquity — high and low — it is all the same,” Prada told Suzy Menkes backstage. “It is supposed to be an ironic take — sometimes nostalgic, for a contemporary take on antiquity for those who don’t understand the beauty of the past.”

Crystals dripped from clear plastic bags and velcro-closing shoes, adorned tops, formed a sparkly chain mail, and gunmetal gray pieces were left with raw edges. Lindsey Wixson opened, Kate Kosushkina closed, and though Prada is not known to be a diverse runway, Liu Wen, Shu Pei Qin, and last season's Calvin Klein exclusive Lyndsey Scott all walked.

Accessory Report: Ranjana Khan Spring 2010

Having already fallen in love with jewelry designer Ranjana Khan's fall collection of jeweled bib necklaces, we could not wait to see what the former model and wife of fashion designer Naeem Khan had in store for spring 2010.

Having already fallen in love with jewelry designer Ranjana Khan's fall collection of jeweled bib necklaces, we could not wait to see what the former model and wife of fashion designer Naeem Khan had in store for spring 2010. She did not disappoint, this season creating unexpected twists on aristocratic jewels by using distressing techniques—scorching crystals, acid washing ribbon and hammering metallic bullion—to create vintage finishes and beautiful imperfections. Call us obsessed.

>> The Spring 2010 Prada show is starting shortly, and already details are rolling in. The set evokes black-and-white film stills, and the show is apparently all about the beach, with silk palm tree and beach scene-printed mini shorts and jackets, clear jeweled jelly shoes and dresses, and low side ponytails and glossy red lips.

Update 2: A rumor is going around that the press show is starting an hour late because Anna Wintour wanted to introduce Roger Federer, who she brought to Prada, to Giorgio Armani beforehand. [Christina Binkley Twitter]

Dolce & Gabbana Launches Video Series for Spring 2010

With the success of fashion insider films like "The September Issue" and the Sundance Channel's brilliant series, "The Day Before", designers are increasingly willing to allow cameras behind the scenes and into their personal workspaces to promote a new collection.

This season Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have joined the camera-loving group and are filming a series of daily web videos, allowing a sneak peak at their preparations for spring 2010 in the final days before the Dolce & Gabbana show this Sunday.

In the first video of a four-part series, titled "The Pre-Show Diaries", we spotted loads of black and white fabric and trimmings—lace, netting and fringe—along with a pair of killer black peep toe-heels, jet and gold beaded jewelry and satin headbands. Stay tuned for more previews, as new vidoes will be added everyday to the Dolce & Gabbana YouTube channel, found here.
