Proenza Schouler Designs Jeans With J Brand For Fall 2010

Proenza Schouler's buttoned up fall 2010 collection featured updated collegiate-style toggle jackets, sleeveless white shirts, plaid pleated mini skirts, and high-waisted, ultra skinny denim (a first for Proenza Schouler).

Proenza Schouler's buttoned up fall 2010 collection featured updated collegiate-style toggle jackets, sleeveless white shirts, plaid pleated mini skirts, and high-waisted, ultra skinny denim (a first for Proenza Schouler). The jeans were designed in collaboration with J Brand, combining the denim brand's much-loved stretch fit with the designers' modern silhouette.

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez explained they were exploring the idea of uniforms with this fall collection and couldn't ignore denim's ubiquity in most people's wardrobe. Of course, these trousers aren't your average jean. Each pair is printed with a graphic black and white graffiti print, which is hand-pained over to create texture.

"Everyone we know wears J Brand. It was an easy choice," said McCollough and Hernandez. The denim collection will be available in stores mid-July.

Chief executive officer of Gucci Group, Robert Polet announced this morning that despite the suicide last week of its founder and creative director, the Alexander McQueen business will go on.

"We believe in the future of the brand," said Polet, speaking at PPR’s annual results presentation in Paris. "Lee was very proud of the people working in his company, and so am I." PPR president Francois-Henri Pinault added, "this would be the best tribute that we could offer him."

Sales of Alexander McQueen clothing and accessories have increased 1,400 percent since McQueen's death was reported. The company first broke even in 2007 and made a small profit in 2009 only to return back to losses during the financial crisis of 2009.

PPR confirmed the Alexander McQueen fall 2010 collection, most of which was completed before McQueen's suicide, will show during Paris Fashion Week. According to the current schedule, the runway show will be held on March 9 at 8:30PM.

This would be the best tribute that we could offer to him."  Pinault noted that the decision was made quickly after McQueen's death, and said he was confident the house continues to hold "very important potential." Sales of McQueen clothes are reported to have surged 1,400 percent in the last week.

Robert Polet, president of Gucci Group, confirmed that the Fall 2010 collection the designer was finishing before his death will be shown at Paris Fashion Week next month.  Polet said he spoke to McQueen a few weeks ago, and the two men decided that they had "transitioned from being the name of a designer to putting in place the building blocks of a brand." He recalled McQueen telling him: "That means that will be my legacy. That's something I will always leave behind."
