Dries van Noten Sends Fall 2010 Guests Through Airport-Like Security Pre-Show
>> Dries van Noten took fashion show security to a new level today in Paris: everyone's bags had to be scanned, airport-style, before entering the show venue, which just so happened to be the Salle de Fetes (the mayor's party room), in Paris' historic City Hall.
Against the setting's gilded, painted ceiling and decadent hanging chandeliers, van Noten sent out an army of military green, leopard print, hand-painted silks, tops cut off and frayed at the shoulders, and hourglass-shaped coats to a Malcolm McLaren-curated soundtrack. "We started with '50s and '60s couture, the beautiful shapes, and also looked at other garments, menswear, military uniforms and mixed them together in a rebellious way," the designer said backstage. "You get the same elegance, but in a really different way." Jane Birkin, in jeans and faded Western shirt, and Jared Leto were both front row taking it in.

Police in Pursuit of Naomi Campbell After She Assaulted Driver, Fled from Scene
>> New York City police are on the hunt for Naomi Campbell after she assaulted her limo driver in Midtown this afternoon. They are considering whether to charge the model; her 27-year-old driver says she become angry with him while he was driving her around Manhattan, and she started to slap and punch him from the back seat of his Cadillac Escalade.
When the driver stopped the car at E. 58th Street and Second Avenue just after 3 pm and called 911, Campbell reportedly jumped out of the car and ran away; she was last seen exiting the scene. Police are canvassing the area and messages left with Campbell spokesman Jeff Raymond were not returned.
UPDATE: The driver, Miodrag Mejdina, has declined to press charges, though suffered bruising and swelling under an eye — he said that Campbell struck on the back of the head while he was driving, causing him to hit his head on the steering wheel. Mejdina had been hired to chaffeur Campbell's boyfriend, the still married Vladislav Doronin, a year ago, and Campbell had tried to call both men, but neither picked up their phone. She was mulling over the accident again yesterday, according to the driver, and accused Medjina for covering for Doronin before slapping him. Campbell's spokesman noted of the incident: “There shouldn’t be a rush to judgment. There is more to the story than meets the eye.” [NYDN, NY Times]

Confirmed: Brian Atwood Leaving Bally; Current Brand Owners Repositioning Label, Looking for More Fashion Investments
>> Those rumors last September of Brian Atwood stepping down from Bally have proven to be correct: the designer just presented his last collection for the label for Fall 2010 and is moving on to focus on his own label.
Atwood was hired in 2007 to revamp and revitalize the Swiss brand's image — but in April 2008, Bally was sold to Labelux Group, which has also recently purchased stakes in Derek Lam, Solange Azagury-Partride, and Zagliani, and it sounds like Atwood was asked to leave. It's rumored Labelux wants the brand more focused on its Swiss heritage, as exemplified by the Spring 2010 Bally ad campaign, featuring Christy Turlington against a background of Alps.
