Levi's Artistically Interprets Its Fall 2010 Collections For Women and Men

Levi's took over the Hosfelt gallery in far West Midtown last Wednesday night to showcase its upcoming Fall denim lines. If its collection is the future of jeans, it's going to look a lot like the past — think skinnies, misc. paint splatters, and intermittent embellishment.

More interesting was the event's concept. Thirty or so models decked out in the collection and on a dais were a visitor's first sight. They were surrounded by a series of photographs commissioned and inspired by Levi's. With neon signs spelling out artsy maxims on the walls, the British band One Eskimo set up in a corner and crooned to the crowd. It was definitely a case of sensory overload, but it was a good way to draw attention to a new collection full of old staples.

J.Crew Presents Fall 2010 Men's and Women's Collections in New York

Jenna Lyons and Frank Muytjens presented their fall 2010 collections for J.Crew last night in the penthouse of Milk Studios.

Jenna Lyons and Frank Muytjens presented their fall 2010 collections for J.Crew last night in the penthouse of Milk Studios. Muytjens was up first, showing casual yet polished menswear looks like dark jeans (rolled to the ankle and worn with loafers — no socks), skinny blazers with thin ties, down vests and coats, and utilitarian workwear shirts in plaid or denim.

For Lyons, the season was a continuation of spring's military theme with a bit more "young girl goes to camp for the first time," she explained. Hence models' hay-strewn hair, canvas and leather riding boots, plaid ponchos, and Civil War-era military hats. J.Crew's popular touch of romanticism wasn't completely lost in the woods, with Lyons also offering sequin cardigans, jewel-encrusted knit gloves, glittering brooches, a frothy white tiered gown, and faux fur vests in blush and nude.

Maryna Linchuk and her DJ boyfriend, Salvatore Morale, are making a habit of their model-and-boyfriend editorial shoots. First the duo appeared in a sexy cocktail-attire-inspired Allure spread last December, and then there was the cover and accompanying editorial for Russian Tatler's February issue. The latest publication to feature the photogenic couple is 25 magazine, in which Linchuk and Morale appear in a steamy editorial called "Room 828." A video of the photo session can be seen here.

Stefano Tonchi Works Out DUI Charge; Anne Christensen to Edit T?

>> Stefano Tonchi, who officially starts as W editor on April 12, was scheduled to go on trial yesterday in Beverly Hills for a DUI, Gawker reports.

>> Stefano Tonchi, who officially starts as W editor on April 12, was scheduled to go on trial yesterday in Beverly Hills for a DUI, Gawker reports. Last January, Beverly Hills police stopped Tonchi for a "routine traffic violation"; when Tonchi refused a breathalyzer test at the scene, he was arrested when he failed a battery of field sobriety tests.

Police filed a single misdemeanor DUI charge against Tonchi last February, and he was arraigned last March, but trial was delayed for over a year while the defense filed several motions to suppress evidence. Tonchi's attorney confirmed to Gawker that a plea was worked out shortly before trial was to begin yesterday morning — the DUI charge was dropped and Tonchi was allowed to plead to only the initial traffic violation, failure to stop at a limit line. Tonchi himself did not appear in court.

Returning to the city where he got his start, Yohji Yamamoto presented his men's line in Tokyo yesterday with a crowd of 3,200 watching from the city's 1964 Olympic stadium. “This is a kind of compensation for my absence from Japan. I’m sorry I was absent for 20 years,” Yamamoto said of coming home after seasons showing in Paris. His country provided inspiration for this collection, and Yamamoto made statements backstage about the importance of beauty, quality, and creativity over commerce and economic power. Of the fast fashion phenomenon, he told WWD, "I don’t think it’s a threat, I would say: 'Let it go. Go to hell.'"
