Classic Chanel Jacket Book Preview

>> Carine Roitfeld has dropped hints about working with Karl Lagerfeld on an upcoming book, and now there's photographic proof. A preview — and details about the collaboration — are in the new issue of V magazine, on newsstands tomorrow, Nov. 9.

The project, which is still being produced, centers around the classic black Chanel tweed jacket. Lagerfeld has been shooting (and Roitfeld styling) portraits of stylish women (and a couple of men) of varying ages and occupations — think actors, models, and heiresses — wearing the jacket, in order to explore the many different ways it can be worn. "This jacket is a vital and irrational impulse open to creativity and transformation," Lagerfeld explains, adding: "Especially in the hands of Carine Roitfeld."

2011 Fashion's Night Out Tokyo

>> The Fashion's Night Out festivities in Tokyo on Saturday gathered all 17 international Vogue editors together in one place — providing for quite the photo op. But that wasn't the only Kodak moment to come out of the event — Anna Wintour, on her first visit to Japan in 20 years, pounded rice cake paste with a giant wooden hammer at Theory for the cameras (left). All in all, she seemed to be quite enjoying herself: "It's just fantastic to see so much creativity on the street. You really don't see that so much in New York. It tends to be a much more blue-jeans-and-T-shirt world." A smattering of pictures from the evening, in the slideshow.

Loulou de la Falaise

>> Loulou de Falaise, who collaborated with and inspired Yves Saint Laurent for over three decades, died Saturday at her country house in Boury-en-Vexin, northwest of Paris. She was 63.

The Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation announced her passing, citing an unspecified "long illness" as the cause of death. WWD's sources report that de la Falaise was diagnosed with cancer last June but wanted to keep her health a private matter. She is survived by her husband, Thadee Klossowski — who she married in 1977 in a Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche turban and harem pants — and their daughter, Anna.

De la Falaise met Saint Laurent at 1968, when she was 21, at a tea party given by the designer Fernando Sanchez. She began working for YSL in 1972, designing jewelry and hats for his couture and ready-to-wear collections and producing up to 2,000 pieces of jewelry a year until 2002, when he retired. Later, she collaborated with Oscar de la Renta on his jewelry collections. Her final designs — a line of costume jewelry she created over the Summer — go on sale next month in the shop at the Majorelle Garden in Marrakech.

Christian Cota for Project Paz 2011

>> Twelve American designers have banded together, each creating one-off dresses and accessories that will be unveiled tonight at the Project Art charity event to raise funds for the victims of violence and crime in Ciudad Juarez. Each of the designers involved — Phillip Lim, Thakoon, Wes Gordon, Eddie Borgo, Yigal Azrouel, Peter Som, Rag & Bone, Sara Beltran, Anndra Neen, Christian Cota, Juan Carlos Obando, Michael Bastian, and Alejandro Ingelmo — was given a piece of traditional, handwoven fabric from the Oaxaca region of Mexico to work into their one-of-a-kind design.

The pieces will be available during and after the event on L-Atitude (they're already available to see online), with 100 percent of proceeds to be donated to Project Paz. See what Cota — who is from Mexico himself — designed for the occasion, in the slideshow.
