Marios Schwab's Status at Halston; Plus, Why Sarah Jessica Parker Didn't Work Out

>> On the heels of news that Sarah Jessica Parker and Harvey Weinstein are both on their way out from Halston, the next logical question is: What about Halston creative director Marios Schwab?

>> On the heels of news that Sarah Jessica Parker and Harvey Weinstein are both on their way out from Halston, the next logical question is: What about Halston creative director Marios Schwab?

According to WWD, there's recently been speculation that Schwab's contract may not be renewed unless he relocates from London, where he designs his eponymous collection, to New York, where Halston is based. Adding fuel to that fire is the fact that Halston owners Hilco Consumer Capital currently seem to be interested in pursuing a licensing model over selling the brand or seeking additional investment to support Schwab.

But where did it go wrong with Parker? WWD points out: "Unlike Victoria Beckham and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who have made successful transitions into fashion, Parker never put her entertainment projects on the back burner to focus exclusively on Halston and instead spent months on movie sets when she might have been a fixture in Halston’s showroom . . . In the early days, Parker was very involved in the Halston Heritage design process and, on occasion, sported the label in her public outings. Over time, however, the actress is said to have used her role at the firm to demand the kinds of clothes she wanted for herself, which were often at odds with the positioning of the contemporary Heritage collection and the overall DNA of Halston."

Under Parker's current agreement with Hilco, which is in the process of being terminated, she is said to be entitled to roughly $13 million over the next four years.

But it's not the only print in the collection by a long shot — grids, '60s floral brights, dots, and even lace fill out the offering. Prada accessorized each look with a printed foulard and/or beret, and lady-like pumps, mules, or sandals — no chunky platforms in sight.

The floor-to-ceiling, stalactitelike columnar forms — made of scraps of fabrics, fur, feathers, leather, plastic, hair and metal from more than 25 years of fashion collections — are set to go on display from July 22 through Aug. 8 at The Fireplace Project, a gallery in East Hampton, New York. According to Neville Wakefield, who is presenting the solo exhibition, the sculptures erase the past and highlight “the transience of our creative endeavors.” [WWD]

The range, which hits Barneys mid-August, features everything from a lizard clutch to the $4,700 Twin Mini crossbody bag — which Barneys fashion director Amanda Brooks wore for the occasion — to a $39,000 crocodile backback. “We didn’t want too much branding; we didn’t want an It bag,” says Mary-Kate of the nine-style collection, which runs $2,350 to $39,000. After the intimate cocktail, where they were joined by sister Elizabeth Olsen, the twins headed to uptown restaurant Crown for an even more intimate celebratory dinner.

For the upcoming Spring 2012 season, it sounds like he's sticking to London, where his design studio is. But he's listed on the official London Fashion Week schedule for the first time — on Sunday, Sept. 18 at one specific time slot: 6 pm. What's more, despite the calendar listing "Tom Ford Women's Presentation," presentations are in blue italics, while runway shows are in bold black — and Tom Ford is denoted in bold black. So will attendees be treated to an actual, full-fledged runway show? [London Fashion Week, Vogue UK]
