Christopher Kane For PPR? Not So Fast

PPR's executive team is having discussions about backing a new brand, but it's not known yet who the lucky designer to join the fashion conglomerate will be.

PPR's executive team is having discussions about backing a new brand, but it's not known yet who the lucky designer to join the fashion conglomerate will be.

"We have been talking about investing in a new luxury name," said PPR CEO Francois-Henri Pinault in an interview with the Financial Times. "We have no more young brands since Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney have all passed the €100 million mark (just over $132 million at current exchange)."

When PPR makes an acquisition, Pinault said, it usually tries to break into an area where it's underrepresented. For example, the firm recently purchased Qeelin, a Hong Kong jewelry operation. Before that, Boucheron was the only jewelry unit in PPR's luxury portfolio. Pinault also made it clear that PPR "will not buy a promising brand and try to move it into another sector."

And though there has been speculation that PPR has been in talks with Christopher Kane, the firm's method of buying new brands would suggest that his label might not be the right fit. Kane's product is certainly different from other PPR brands. But as far as his business model is concerned, Kane's brand is a smaller, younger version of what PPR already has in its stable. Christopher Kane, Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen all offer high-end women's clothing — even around the same price point — and all three brands speak to a modern British design sensibility. If PPR did invest in Kane, it would be at odds with how Pinault has described his brand-buying methods.

Still, this hasn't stopped industry observers from honing in on Kane as a possible contender for PPR's investment. He's been a free agent since he left his position as the creative director of Versace's Versus line to focus on his own brand last month. Kane was even mentioned as a possible replacement for Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga.

Homes of Their Own: Inside the Proenza Schouler Apartments

The New York City apartment Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough put on the market this Fall sold fast, but don't worry — Lazaro Hernandez's place is still up for grabs.

The New York City apartment Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough put on the market this Fall sold fast, but don't worry — Lazaro Hernandez's place is still up for grabs.

Both designers listed their homes for sale on the same day in October, and McCollough's two-bedroom West Village duplex just sold for $1,895,000. But Hernandez recently reduced the asking price for his apartment — which takes up the parlor floor of a townhouse in Chelsea — from $985,000 down to $950,000.

Why both places didn't sell immediately is a mystery: McCollough's light-filled, two-floor apartment has a modern, clean-lined sleekness to it that's warmed up with natural elements like a wall of wood cabinetry in the living room and dark gray stone countertops in the kitchen. There's even a small terrace just steps away from the study.

Hernandez's home is furnished and appointed a little more traditionally: there's a brick fireplace in the living room, which features wooden shutters on its windows. The terrace here is slightly larger than at McCollough's place, and accommodates a table, chairs, and an outdoor sectional.

Speculation has the couple pooling their resources and moving in together, but until then, here's a glimpse of both homes here in the gallery.

Christmas Memories: Anna Sui Shares the Worst Gift She Ever Got

Before she was a major name in American fashion, Anna Sui was a little girl whose mother dressed her "like a doll."

Before she was a major name in American fashion, Anna Sui was a little girl whose mother dressed her "like a doll." Which means getting a military vehicle as a Christmas present probably wasn't on brand.

"As a little kid, we used to go to my father's fraternity, and they'd have a Christmas party," Sui told us at a party for her collaboration with Coach last month. "One year I got a truck — an Army truck — and I just thought, 'boy that's really a gyp!' Then many years later I found out that this uncle spent his own money and bought everybody's kid a present. So I think it was just a mix up, you know, an oversight, whatever. But I was really disappointed back then on that day."

Sui added that she'll be spending the holidays with her family in Bloomfield Hills, MI. "I love the holidays because I have nine nieces and nephews, so it's very Christmas-y to buy presents and toys," she said. "I'm hoping that I can give my nieces some of these bags, but I don't know what I wish to receive." Hopefully it won't be another truck.

Zac Posen to Join Project Runway

If 2013 wasn't going to be a big enough year for Zac Posen, it just got bigger.

If 2013 wasn't going to be a big enough year for Zac Posen, it just got bigger.

Posen announced on Tuesday he is "so excited to be the new judge on @ProjectRunway Season 11!" He later tweeted, "It's going to be quite the season."

Posen will replace Michael Kors, who will sit out this season due to scheduling conflicts. But Kors isn't leaving the show altogether: he'll rejoin the judges' panel as a guest during the season finale. Heidi Klum, the show's executive producer, tweeted "I will miss you this season my brother @MichaelKors I love you!" before welcoming Posen to the team.

Posen, who has been a guest judge on the show in the past, called the job "an amazing opportunity. I hope I'm here to give a new perspective to the designers."

The new season of Project Runway debuts on Jan. 24, but it won't be the only place Posen will appear on TV next year. His Spring 2013 runway show was filmed for an episode of the new modeling reality series The Face.

Photoshop Fail? Coco Rocha Says There's Nothing Wrong With Her Longchamp Ads

Coco Rocha isn't holding her tongue about a perceived "Photoshop fail" in her current Longchamp campaign with Emily DiDonato.

Coco Rocha isn't holding her tongue about a perceived "Photoshop fail" in her current Longchamp campaign with Emily DiDonato.

One of the ads, shot by Max Vadukul, shows DiDonato sitting on the back of a bicycle while Rocha steers. Since viewers can't see DiDonato's legs, and because Photoshop disasters have become so commonplace as of late, The Huffington Post was quick to question whether DiDonato's lower extremities had gotten the chop. Rocha responded:

"As you can see in the behind-the-scenes pictures above (which were posted everywhere a few months back) she's just balancing with her feet on the seat behind me. Skillful, I know, but no Photoshop disaster this time. . . I believe you stand corrected!"

Indeed, Rocha has never been afraid to speak her mind about the use of Photoshop in advertising and editorial work. In July, she tweeted, "Hey, Photoshop guys! Can you please be sure to count two arms and two legs on the girls you cut and paste? Thanks!! Sincerely, Models." Just before that, when her May cover of Elle Brazil was retouched to make it appear that she wasn't wearing a bra, Rocha dedicated a whole blog post to making it clear that she was.

    Opening Ceremony

    Opening Ceremony Pre-Fall 2013

If what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, what happens when you're on the way there?
    Opening Ceremony Pre-Fall 2013 | Pictures

If what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, what happens when you're on the way there? That's the story Carol Lim and Humberto Leon were trying to tell with their Opening Ceremony Pre-Fall 2013 collection.

At the outset, many of the looks in this visual accounting of a young woman's first trip to Sin City were crisp works in black and white, like a pair of belted wide-leg trousers or a black sequined dress with sheer white sleeves that zipped up the front. The visual interest picked up as the collection progressed with the addition of a dizzying pattern of thin, undulating black and white stripes and the first accent colors: pale blue, purple, and red. Eventually these were joined by a deep blue that was used in sweaters and a romper covered in paillettes, and a burgundy jacquard used for a few of the final pieces. That fabric looked especially great as the sleeves and collar of a black raglan-sleeve jacket with a plain black bodice.

The spirit of riding a roaring Harley down an open highway permeated Phillip Lim's Pre-Fall 2013 collection. If the leather jackets and pants with quilted knee panels didn't express that feeling enough, the stylized phoenix and zippers that acted as decorations should.

Those pieces were appealing enough on their own, but Lim balanced them with garments that even dedicated pedestrians will want to wear. Of note: otherwise simple skirts featuring asymmetrical hems, outerwear with rounded shoulders, oversize knitwear pieces, and a pale green parka that looked perfectly cozy paired with a navy snood and maroon trousers.
