Shop It Now: Peter Som Resort 2013

Peter Som Resort 2013

Peter Som looked to Marrakesh — and specifically, the actress Talitha Getty's adventures there in the late '60s — for Resort 2013. The result? A collection filled with enough lace, jacquard, and winding prints to make even the most hardened minimalist think twice. Sounds wild, yes (Getty was, after all, legendary for her bohemian style), but Som is nothing if not a classicist, and so these romantic textures and patterns are tempered by Som's even, linear way with a silhouette — and made all the more appealing for it. "A sense of wanderlust and nomad chic pervades this Resort collection," Som explained. "Mosaic and textile inspired prints mingle with signature tweed and lace to create a collection that is about everyday wearability with a touch of escapism."

Available for preorder now through Aug. 14 at Moda Operandi.

Goyard Dishes and Strange Toys: Inside the Life of Choupette Lagerfeld

Because the fascination with Karl Lagerfeld's cat Choupette needs as much attention as the pampered kitten herself, the Kaiser revealed a little more about her in an interview with Harper's Bazaar.

Because the fascination with Karl Lagerfeld's cat Choupette needs as much attention as the pampered kitten herself, the Kaiser revealed a little more about her in an interview with Harper's Bazaar.

Choupette's two maids — who obsessively catalog her every move — the Chanel bag named for her, and her penchant for eating food at the table are by now common knowledge. But what the world didn't know until today is where Choupette's dishes come from and what kind of toys she favors. Those tidbits and more below.

On her general temperament: "She has an attitude like a princess."

On her eating habits: "She goes in the kitchen and sits in front of the food. She doesn't like to eat on the floor, so I have to put the food on the table. Her dishes are by Goyard. She has one for water, one for her little croquette, and one for her paté. You have to serve everything, and she makes a choice."

On her toys: "She likes strange toys, toys that aren't supposed to be toys. She plays with pieces of wood, pieces of paper, shopping bags. She loves shopping bags . . . her favorite one is a huge Colette shopping bag that's under the kitchen table. She spends hours in there and brings all her toys in there. And when I'm in bed, sometimes she comes and brings all her toys in my bed."

On whether Choupette meows or purrs: "No, no, no — everything is done with the eyes. She knows exactly what she wants."

Jil Sander Opts Out Of Milan Fashion Week Calendar

Milan Fashion Week's official calendar will have one notable exception this September: Jil Sander.

Milan Fashion Week's official calendar will have one notable exception this September: Jil Sander.

Instead, according to a report in La Repubblica, Sander will stage two independent showings because this season's calendar couldn't give her an ideal time. Milan Fashion Week is scheduled to run between Sept. 19 to 25, but many of the shows will take place between Sept. 19 and 23 due to fear that buyers and editors will leave Milan early to go to Paris Fashion Week.

"I'm sorry not to have Jil Sander on the calendar," said Mario Boselli, president of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. "We've been friends a long time and now that the queen of minimalism has returned to design for the brand that bears her name, we would have liked to have her with us."

Sander showed her first collection for the house since 2004 this July during Men's Fashion Week in Milan.

Behind the Scenes With Stella McCartney at the Olympics

From the creation of Team Britain's performance kit to making sure her father had the perfect bespoke opening ceremony ensemble, Stella McCartney has been one busy designer.

From the creation of Team Britain's performance kit to making sure her father had the perfect bespoke opening ceremony ensemble, Stella McCartney has been one busy designer. She's also been quite occupied with another pastime: Instagram. Days before London's big salute, McCartney was busy snapping pics from behind the scenes, offering an inside glimpse on everything from her own clothing choice ("From a fashion perspective, I went for a total gold look," she told Vogue of her shimmering track suit) to the vibe backstage at the stadium.

And though the designer has stated that she had nothing to do with Team Britain's official opening ceremony outfits — which drew some criticism from fans over the weekend — she didn't let the controversy dampen her spirits. "It was quite different to anything that I had ever experienced," she said of Friday night's extravaganza. "Everyone was high on pride and everyone had come together as one. The Olympics really do stand for something magnificent."

The second preview image for the debut issue of Carine Roitfeld's highly anticipated new magazine, CR Fashion Book, depicts a woman in black holding a doll swaddled in white.

The image, which stars model Marie Piovesan, is as much a study in contrasts as the previous glimpse at the magazine. In the first teaser, shot by Sebastian Faena, model Juliet Ingleby walks through a cemetery in a sheer lavender veil — and little else — flanked by three models dressed in head-to-toe black.

The first issue of CR Fashion Book is available for preorder now and will be on newsstands on Sept. 13. A look at the two teaser images here in the gallery.

Anna Piaggi

Remembering Legendary Fashion Editor Anna Piaggi

The industry experienced an outpouring of grief as designers, models, and editors alike said farewell to journalist and style icon Anna Piaggi, who was found dead in her home in Milan Tuesday morning.
Anna Piaggi Dead at 81

The industry experienced an outpouring of grief as designers, models, and editors alike said farewell to journalist and style icon Anna Piaggi, who was found dead in her home in Milan Tuesday morning. She was 81 years old.

The Italian newspaper La Repubblica broke the story, and Stefano Gabbana was among the first to comment on the news, tweeting "RIP Anna Piaggi . . . ciao grande Anna!!! " Kate Betts said she would "never forget intrepid style icon Anna Piaggi — we shared many laughs backstage at so many fashion shows . . . for so many seasons, years." Franca Sozzani, who had worked with Piaggi for over two decades, called her unforgettable, too.

Piaggi got her start in journalism as the first fashion editor of Ariadne, considered one of the first women's magazines in Italy. Over the course of her career she worked for a number of others, too. Piaggi's writing appeared everywhere from Vanity Fair to Italian Vogue, for which she created the famous Double Pages: a full spread of highly colorful photo illustrations that captured the spirit of the moment. She also wrote a book called Fashion Algebra on how those pages were created.

While her contributions to journalism are great, she will perhaps be best remembered for her inimitable personal style. Her wardrobe, which encompasses over 2,800 dresses and over 200 pairs of shoes, was the subject of an exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2006. Piaggi was named to Vanity Fair's International Best Dressed list "somewhat belatedly in 2007," in the words of Cathy Horyn. Manolo Blahnik once called Piaggi "the world's last great authority on frocks."

A look at the style the world will remember her for here in the gallery.
