Disney Goes Designer For Barneys Holiday 2012
Executives at Barneys knew their Holiday 2011 retail extravaganza Gaga's Workshop would be a tough act to follow, so this year they got someone even bigger: Disney. For Holiday 2012, the store and the brand collaborated on products, window installations, a short film, and a 3D light show as part of a retail concept dubbed Electric Holiday. The full scope of the project will be unveiled on Nov. 14.

The centerpiece of the collaboration is a short film that will be screened in the windows at Barneys' Madison Avenue flagship store in New York City. In it, Minnie Mouse realizes her dream of modeling in Paris, and ends up walking a runway dressed in Lanvin alongside model-sized versions of Goofy (in Balmain) Daisy Duck (in Dolce & Gabbana) and Mickey Mouse (in Balenciaga).

Products from the partnership marry the fashion world with the Disney experience, too. L'Wren Scott and Rag & Bone designed Mickey Mouse ears that will be sold in select Barneys stores around the holidays, and Diane von Furstenberg and Paul Smith created Mickey Mouse-shaped vinyl figurines.

Barneys CEO Mark Lee called the Disney collaboration a good fit. "The legendary characters and world created by Disney live in the active mind and memory of virtually every citizen of the world," he said. A look at how those characters were reimagined for Electric Holiday in the gallery.

Exclusive: Elizabeth Olsen Covers Bullett's Fall 2012 Issue
"There's something about being in college and having theories about life and the world," Elizabeth Olsen says in the romance-themed Fall 2012 issue of Bullett magazine. "It's a really fun phase to go through until, you know, everything gets sh*t on."

That observation from Olsen, who appears on one of the magazine's three covers, is joined by stories on fellow cover stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Pharrell Williams. Actors Jim Sturgess and Tracy Morgan also have features, and in another interview, singer Chan Marshall of Cat Power discusses everything from depression to the occupational hazards of live concerts.

"Something is usually distracting me when I'm doing my job, especially since my job is to be faithful and dedicated to the song," Marshall says. "It's hard to present the song in its natural state if someone is taking a picture with a flash, like, seven times, in the front row, or if there are two chicks who are like [Valley Girl voice], 'Oh my god, I know! So last weekend, that was so much fun!' I'm like, Can you go to the bar where everyone else is talking?"

Sally Singer to Leave T Magazine
Sally Singer will leave her job as editor of T Magazine, the New York Times's fashion magazine, at the end of the week. No reason has been given for her departure, and the Times hasn't yet named a successor.
"Sally's contributions are clear to anyone who's read the magazine during her tenure," wrote the Times's executive editor Jill Abramson in a staff memo announcing Singer's departure. "Gorgeous visuals, interesting stories and enterprising features — both in print and online — have been hallmarks of her stewardship. We wish her every success."
While Singer may have expanded T's coverage to include interesting non-fashion stories, she didn't succeed in making it more profitable. T had, in the Times's former executive editor Bill Keller's estimation, been created to "generate the revenues that help subsidize the stuff that drew most of us into the business." But after a year on the job, T's advertising pages had only increased by .7 percent. The Spring 2012 fashion issue, for example, saw an eight percent decline in ads, which wasn't good news in a month where many other magazines, including Vogue, Glamour, W, and Harper's Bazaar posted ad page gains between two and 31 percent.
Singer came to T in June 2010, leaving her position as fashion news and features editor at Vogue. She replaced Stefano Tonchi, who had moved on to be editor in chief of W Magazine. At the time, Singer said, "I imagine at some point [T Magazine] will naturally evolve into something that reflects more my taste and concerns than those of my predecessor. But hopefully that will be an organic process and not an imposition."
John Galliano Reportedly Suing Dior

John Galliano is believed to have sued Dior for €15 million (about $18.8 million at current exchange) in a French labor court.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Galliano has filed an employee/employer dispute with the Paris Conseil des prud'hommes, an industrial tribunal that hears cases regarding employment contracts. While details of Galliano's complaint to the court are not known, his hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2013.
Dior dismissed Galliano last March after he was accused of making anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris bar. Last week, the newly installed French President Francois Hollande stripped Galliano of his membership in the country's Legion of Honor.
