It's Official: PPR Buys Stake in Christopher Kane

PPR just bought a new little brother for Gucci.

PPR just bought a new little brother for Gucci. After months of speculation, Christopher Kane's eponymous label is now a member of PPR's stable of luxury brands. On Monday, the French conglomerate purchased a 51 percent stake in the company and revealed plans to help it grow internationally.

Some of those plans include adding another ready-to-wear line to the Kane umbrella and opening the brand's first freestanding store, which will probably set up shop in London next year.

"Christopher Kane is already established as a luxury label and has a tremendous intrinsic growth potential," said PPR CEO Francois-Henri Pinault in a statement. "We thus have great ambitions for the brand and will enable it to benefit from our expertise and know-how while providing the space for it to further develop its own creative identity."

Though PPR now owns a controlling share of Kane's label, Kane told WWD that the company "understands and appreciates our creative independence." That said, PPR has not ruled on appointing a new CEO for the brand at a later date. Currently, Kane's sister Tammy runs the business side of the company.

Both sides agree that the primary objective for Christopher Kane is expansion.

"Our long-term ambition for the company is obviously to grow it into a globally recognized brand," Kane said. "We do not plan to make any immediate or major changes to the way that the business is currently managed. All growth will be gradual and organic."

Rumors that Kane's label would join PPR began shortly after he left his position as the creative director of Versace's secondary brand, Versus. At the time, Balenciaga, another PPR brand, had just announced that its longtime creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, planned to leave the company. Some believed Kane would replace Ghesquière, but that job eventually went to Alexander Wang.

Exclusive First Look: Arizona Muse Stars in Nina Ricci's Spring 2013 Campaign

Talk about romantic gestures.

Talk about romantic gestures. In Nina Ricci's Spring 2013 campaign, Arizona Muse is captured in a whirlwind of what appear to be flower petals.

Closer inspection reveals the petals in Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin's photos are actually small disks of pink paper fluttering to the ground. Art directed by stylist Alex White and Malin Ericson, the ads call to mind the swirl of flower petals that fell from the ceiling at Peter Copping's Spring 2013 show for the brand last September.

An exclusive first look at the campaign here in the gallery.

Gurung's collection of ready-to-wear, accessories, and shoes will be available in Target stores and on its website from Feb. 10 to March 23, and prices will run from $13 to $200. The most expensive piece is a light blue leather biker jacket, while a few pieces of jewelry round out the lowest price point. The offering features a number of floral pieces, and everything in it speaks to Gurung's modern and romantic aesthetic.

Speaking of romance, it's fitting that this collaboration would launch so close to Valentine's Day. Gurung said these clothes were made for falling in love.

"The collection is inspired by a girl's journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone — from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement," Gurung said.

Ooh La La: Alber Elbaz's First Cosmetics Collection Is on the Way

For his very first foray into makeup, Alber Elbaz has teamed up with Lancome to produce a line of cosmetics that will debut globally on June 15.

For his very first foray into makeup, Alber Elbaz has teamed up with Lancome to produce a line of cosmetics that will debut globally on June 15.

"Alber Elbaz is, without a doubt, one of the world's most influential fashion designers," said Lancome International president Youcef Nabi. "His sense of luxury, his vision of femininity and that hint of audacity resonate perfectly with the new values of the Maison Lancome."

Lancome announced the collection on Monday by posting a teaser video created by Elbaz and Pascal Dangin of Box Studios to its YouTube page. In it, illustrated women sitting in the front row of what appears to be a fashion show are seen greeting each other, sending text messages, and cheering in delight for an unseen something coming down the runway. But what will the collaboration look like? That might not be known until the next video.
