What's a woman to wear when she becomes first lady for the second time around? At Monday night's inaugural ball, Michelle Obama wore a red chiffon and velvet gown by Jason Wu, who created the dress she wore to the her husband's first inauguration in 2009.
br>
"Mrs. Obama likes to keep her secrets," he said in an interview with WWD, explaining that he didn't know she'd chosen the design. "She fooled me again. She's really good at it. I was so nervous. You'd think I wouldn't be since I'd experienced it before but I really was."
br>
Obama paired the gown with shoes from Jimmy Choo and a handmade diamond-embellished ring by Kimberly McDonald.

Obama wore a Thom Browne coat and dress for the official inaugural ceremonies earlier in the day, and she wore a mix of equally celebrated designers for the weekend leading up to Monday's big celebrations. The coat was inspired by fabrics used for men's neckties, and Browne told CNN reporter Alina Cho that he picked navy blue because of the likelihood President Obama would wear a similar color.
br>
"She's such a strong woman," he said in an interview with The New York Times. "I wanted her to feel good in it and to feel comfortable, strong, feminine, and beautiful." Browne was asked to submit a design several months ago, but didn't know that she would wear the coat and dress until today.

The first lady also wore shoes from J.Crew and a necklace designed by Cathy Waterman. The entire outfit will be donated to the National Archives at the end of the inaugural festivities, according to The Associated Press.

Christian Dior Couture Spring 2013
There may have been snow on the ground in Paris's Jardin des Tuileries, but inside Dior's nearly invisible mirrored tent, Spring was in full bloom. Hedges designed by landscape artist Martin Wirtz provided the path to a meandering runway, while near-naked branches culled from just-awoken trees offered a romantic, Secret Garden scene.
br>
The first look out was a swirling, strapless confection in icy chiffon accented with a slash of black satin above the bust. The model, with her pixie-cut hair, airy swagger, and glittering red lips, called to mind a flittering wood nymph. Soon more nymphs arrived; most wore sleekly corseted gowns that exploded from the waist in dramatic, full flares or asymmetrically draped folds. In pastel silk, iridescent organza, or whisper-weight chiffon, everything felt softly natural yet utterly restrained — even as more elaborate looks like floral embroidered jackets, voluminous car coats, and bubble-hemmed dresses covered in sparkling petal appliqué began to appear.
br>
"The collection reflects the passing of time of the season, beginning as the signs of early life," the show notes explained. "Silhouettes are in flux, seemingly finding their own forms naturally and yet all expertly tended to and under control." Like a well-manicured garden under the tentative warmth of early Spring — or maybe like Raf Simons's intoxicating updates on classic Dior.
Exclusive First Look: Balenciaga Men's Spring 2013 Campaign
French actor Jean-Baptiste Lafarge gets the early '90s treatment in Balenciaga's Spring 2013 campaign. Photographed by Josh Olins and styled by Sarah Richardson, Lafarge glares warily at the camera while wearing the house's tropical floral print button-up and pleat-front pants, his hair slicked back in a mullet to match. The facing pages feature the silhouette of a palm frond juxtaposed by light filtering through blinds. It's a little stark, very moody, and also very Miami Vice. The campaign hits print publications this month and runs through July; until then, a first look at the images, right here.

The Kookiest Runway Looks From the Recent Men's Shows (New Pics!)
Whatever happened to the three-piece suit? While the men's collections shown over the past two weeks in London, Florence, Milan, and Paris featured plenty of office-appropriate suits and weekend-ready sportswear, they also included more than a few looks that defy categorization. Case in point: Where's the modern man supposed to wear the outlandish wooden headpieces that appeared at the MAN show in London? Would the multicolored shawl from Etro's show in Milan best complement jeans or wool trousers?

Here, a look at some of the men's ensembles that may have left viewers with more questions than answers.
Ambassador Anna Wintour? Not Happening

br>
The president is still selecting staff members for his second term in office, but Anna Wintour won't be one of them. According to The New York Times, White House officials told Wintour in November that the coveted ambassadorship to the United Kingdom — which she was reportedly in the running for after raising millions of dollars for President Obama's reelection campaign — would more than likely go to Matthew Barzun, chairman of the campaign's fundraising effort. As for the ambassadorship to France, Wintour "was a potential candidate . . . but is no longer seeking the appointment," the Times reported.
Shop It Now: Thom Browne Pre-Fall 2013
Michelle Obama wore it, and now you can too. Available now at Moda Operandi, is Thom Browne's smartly tailored Pre-Fall 2013 collection, which includes pieces very similar to the custom-made fit-and-flare coat that Mrs. Obama sported at the inauguration in DC on Monday.
br>
Among the goodies are a handful of double-breasted dresses cut in the same navy silk tie jacquard, as well as a pleated dress in midnight blue whose silhouette bears a striking resemblance to that now-famous piece of outerwear. For those who admire Thom Browne's figure-enhancing cuts but do not wish to be the first lady's mini me, there are also plenty of other gorgeous, menswear-inspired ensembles; our favorite is an extremely luxe-looking wool houndstooth ensemble made up of a crewneck shell, round-shouldered jacket, and knee-length pencil skirt.

Click through to see the entirety of the Thom Browne Pre-Fall 2013 pieces available for presale on Moda Operandi, and hurry — not only does the trunk show end Jan. 25, but judging by the amount of buzz Browne is currently receiving, these pieces are sure to be snapped up very soon.

Atelier Versace Spring 2013
For her Spring 2013 Couture collection, Donatella Versace imposed the high-impact codes of her house — bright colors, intricate appliques, lots of skin — on strong-shouldered suits, slinky gowns, and minidresses whose hems started at mid-thigh but ended up skimming the floor.
br>
But for all the body-conscious and curve-hugging pieces she sent down the runway (staged underneath the glass dome of the old Paris bank Le Centorial), this offering had a surprising amount of geometry in it. Kristen McMenamy opened the show in a black suit with gold pinstripes, and that linear motif was repeated elsewhere in the collection with pleated skirts, the parallel lines of quilting on a few leather motorcycle jackets, and the slim strokes of fur sewn onto a vest and a denim minidress decorated with bits of metal.
br>
Other embellishments here included oversize crystals tucked just inside those many pleats, and neon leather tubing used to give a little structure and a lot of edge to some of the simpler dresses Versace showed. But even those dresses were fitted with pieces of mesh that showed off their wearer's legs and thighs.

Sobieski — who was a vision in red at Dior's ready-to-wear outing in October — was no less striking in a Winter-ready navy blue bouclé coat, turtleneck dress, and black moto boot ensemble. Also well prepared for the frosty air was Ulyana Sergeenko: the Russian designer and street-style favorite wore a full-length fur skirt to complement her newly lightened hair.

Lagerfeld sold his three-bedroom, three-bathroom condo at 50 Gramercy Park North for $4.5 million, according to the New York Post. He paid $6.69 million for it in 2006, and though he had it renovated, he never moved in. CasaSugar reported last March that the home had been relisted for $5.2 million.
